COBIT® 7 Foundation

COBIT® is the leading international framework for the governance and management of information and technology (I&T) in organizations. COBIT 7 replaces COBIT 2019 and consistently aligns governance with the digital and AI-driven enterprise.

Governance of I&T is not governance of the IT department. Information, data, the cloud, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence are now enterprise-wide issues—and they require clear decision-making authority, accountability, and a demonstrable contribution to enterprise value. The course teaches the concepts, principles, and methods of COBIT and demonstrates how they can be used to create a tailored, effective governance system.

The course is divided into the following modules:

  • COBIT 7 and Enterprise Governance of I&T – The evolution from COBIT 5 through COBIT 2019 to COBIT 7, business value, and current challenges
  • Principles of the COBIT governance system – governance versus management, Principles, Stakeholder Needs
  • Governance System and Components – Processes, Organizational Structures, Information, People and Competencies, Policies, Culture, Services, and Technology
  • Governance and Management Objectives – COBIT Core Model and Objective Cascade
  • Design of a Tailored Governance System – Design Factors, Prioritization, Context, and Customization
  • Performance Management and Assessment – Capability, Performance, Gap Analysis, and Improvement
  • AI, Digital Trust, and Cyber Resilience – COBIT Applied to AI Governance, Cybersecurity, Data, Cloud, and Resilience
  • Integrated Governance and Operating Model – A Governance System for Risk, Compliance, Security, Cloud, AI, and Assurance
  • Implementing and Improving Governance – Current State, Target State, Roadmap, and Transformation
  • Preparation for the COBIT 7 Foundation Exam


Objectives

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

    • explain the context, benefits, and evolution of COBIT through COBIT 7
    • distinguish between governance and management and describe the principles of the governance system and the framework
    • explain the components of a governance system and how they interact
    • classify governance and management objectives as well as the objective cascade
    • distinguish between approaches to performance management and assessment
    • derive a governance system tailored to their own organization using the design factors
    • apply COBIT to current topics such as AI governance, Digital Trust, and Cyber Resilience
    • Derive a functional governance operating model from the COBIT governance system—from decision-making authority and responsibilities to key metrics and assurance

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites. Experience in IT management, governance, or risk management is helpful but not required.

Target Audience

Individuals involved in the governance of information and technology or who wish to apply COBIT in their organization, for example:

  • Board members, executive board members, business and IT executives
  • CIOs, CISOs, and those responsible for AI, data, and digital transformation
  • IT quality managers, risk managers, compliance officers, and process owners
  • internal and external IT auditors
  • IT governance and operating model consultants

Certificate

Participants will receive a code for the ISACA online exam. The exam is taken online under remote proctoring. Upon passing the exam, participants receive the “COBIT 7 Foundation” certificate from ISACA.

The course materials include the Glenfis training slides with exercises and sample questions for each module, as well as a practice exam for targeted exam preparation.

Note on the version change: ISACA will replace the COBIT 2019 Foundation certificate with the COBIT 7 Foundation certificate on October 27, 2026. The COBIT 2019 exam can still be purchased through October 26, 2026, and taken through April 26, 2027. We continuously update course content that ISACA has not yet finalized for COBIT 7.
